Preparing for Jellyweek is like taking preparations for a journey. It’s time for a quick check-up wether all essential things are in your suitcase. Then our common glocal collaboration trip can get started, wherever we are. How exciting!

It’s amazing, how many beautiful, enormous and spontaneous events are organized by around 200 hosts from 37 countries in 6 continents, numbers still growing. You can see all locations with event descriptions on the

All these local events are made for the local communities. You have to be there to experience the happenings and people for real. The virtual connection can’t substitute this.

SURFING THE JELLYWEEK

By the way: It will be difficult to get an overview about everything during Jellyweek because of the full amount of activities worldwide. It will be a huge wave. So it’s great to ride the event as a surfer. Follow your interest, your passion. Follow the streams of communication. Connect-up with people, topics, communities and countries you feel attracted to. Amazing stories will develop. That’s for sure.

LET’S JELLY GLOBALLY

Thanks to social media we can build relationships on global scale. And we can experience each other in the virtual sphere. Unbelievable, but true. Let’s do the unbelieveable.

To get in touch with each other while being at different places there will be video conferences on google+, so-called hangouts. And some hosts will provide livestreams, where we can follow events from far away. And there will be collaborations and partnerships between jellies. And there will be global events to initiate activities happening simultaneously all over the world.

JELLYWEEK 2013 IS OPEN FOR REGISTRATIONS

It’s exciting and a new beginning. You can register to the next WORLDWIDE JELLYWEEK, which takes place from 14th to 20th January 2013 all over the world. Everybody, who likes to explore collaboration with his local community and who wishes to connect with collaborative people from all over the world is invited to join the adventure.

In the last WORLDWIDE JELLYWEEK in January 2012 there were 223 jellies hosted in 35 countries in 6 continents including Brazil, Japan, New Zealand, Columbia, Egypt, Kenia, Singapore, Kasachstan, USA and most of the European countries. It was a breathtaking experience to build up more personal connections on a global level, to inspire old and new local communities, to explore together the sense and obstacles of worldwide collaboration and to connect other sectors and movements with the worldwide coworking infrastructure. It was all about creating new synergies, a huge win-win-situation for all participants and a rich field of open innovation for networks worldwide.

ARE THE QUESTIONS OF JELLYWEEK 2012 ALREADY ANSWERED?

“Which important needs can be fulfilled by coworking? For which local and global problems coworking can be a part of the solution? How can coworkers use the global coworking infrastructure to foster their businesses and projects? Which people and networks aren’t yet connected to the idea of coworking and should be involved? How can business-oriented networks and NGOs use the coworking infrastructure for their global community building and actions? How can we communicate during the #JELLYWEEK from jelly space to jelly space, from continent to continent with each other? Can we send voyagers from one place or continent to another place or continent in january? Hey guys, The Jellyweek 2013 event is approaching, and this year and forever after, communities and people that want to participate will have a more real-time / simpler way to make their project visible. Previous years, registration happened on a google hosted Google Map and google spreasheets, now we chose Usahidi to make it more powerful, visible, open, interoperable.

Usahidi is an open source project hosted on Github, it’s based on the Kohana PHP framework. It’s also available as a hosted version : Crowdmap which is nice because it eliminates the hosting issue, but is limited when it’s about customizing (theming and custom plugins). What’s more this is an opportunity to contribute to a nice open social-based project.

For this any developer that want to join the effort is welcome to contribute the Usahidi fork to have the best tool available for JW13 (registration starting on 1st november).

First goal is to make a nice responsive theme. One could also create some plugins and support for the JW13 and share it with the rest of the world.

What’s my vision for the next Jellyweek? How I will travel to the Camp location in France? And what is my vision for the Camp in September? Very promising answers.

Zofia Maria Mackiewicz / Italy & Poland

WHO I AM
I’m an open-minded, dynamic person who after over 10 years of working for an international corporation decided to leave everything and move from Poland to Italy. When I arrived here I was given an opportunity to work as a marketing consultant for one of the first coworking spaces in Italy and met many online coworkers from Perth to Michigan. Their enthusiasm was contagious and they were all convinced that coworking changed their lives and their careers. I understood how powerful it can be.

MY JELLYWEEK VISION
I see Jellyweek as an opportunity to gather together, as an occasion to exchange our experiences and ideas, but also to share our successes. A well-organized Jellyweek could become an “injection” of inspiration during these difficult economic times.

HOW I WILL TRAVEL TO THE SUMMERCAMP
I am taking a direct flight from Venice to Toulouse and then we’ll see … train, carpooling, who knows. May the adventure begin!

MY SUMMERCAMP VISION
I’m looking forward to meeting all of you, to discuss our coworking issues and to share our ideas in a friendly, lively atmosphere. I hope that we will come up with some game-changing strategies for the future.

WHO I AM
After working many years (which flew by), organizing events throughout Spain permeability and allow enrichment in the implementation of the vast Spanish labor legislation. I learned that passion, professionalism and collaboration are essential ingredients to tackle any project work that provides a bonus to the society in which it develops. Currently working as a Coworker-promoter in Café Mac: We opened the first center of Valladolid Coworking being a leader in Castilla y Leon. We realize that each person should take charge of their own future work, collaborating on projects, sharing and learning experience and professionalism of the rest of the community.

MY JELLYWEEK VISION
We need people who practice and promote a set of values and attributes associated with creativity, collaboration and multiculturalism.

HOW I WILL TRAVEL TO THE SUMMERCAMP
I will travel by plane from Madrid to Toulouse and after by bus or train to Carcasonne.

MY SUMMERCAMP VISION
I am sure that it a great opportunity to share experiences, ideas and projects from different people with a common thought: being close to people, not being isolated and collaborate.

WHO I AM
A visual management passionate woman. Mother, creating a business model related to her daughter’s profile. Which represents general teens and Y generation vision of life & work.

MY JELLYWEEK VISION
Make visible the integration of very different profiles, young people, elder one, unemployed, entrepreneurs, in existing equipped –in France– public spaces: libraries, maisons pour l’emploi, maisons de quartier, townhalls, schools, centres de loisirs … Mix profiles to create social, constructive, life-long learning relations.

HOW I WILL TRAVEL TO THE SUMMERCAMP
Will travel driving my car. By the way: will pass near Toulouse, can pick someone up at airport or railway station, on monday 3th of September.

MY SUMMERCAMP VISION
Bring myself to the group being focused on result-oriented work. Open minded, like concrete milestones set and work done. I will be curious. I will love to integrate a virtual group in real-life, participate to make this group a GREAT team!

As the initiator and co-founder of coworkingZUG. I believe in small, trusted networks with global connections. My passion is to build real and virtual places that make collaboration fun. WHO I AM
Cofounder of this cutie tiny coworking space in Toulouse called Tau. Like most people currently working here on a daily basis, I’m a freelance web developer.

MY JELLYWEEK VISION
It’s good to know that more and more people stop to be isolated because of their professional activity. Coworking spaces and jellies are nice answers to this issue. And Jellyweek is a chance to show it by the example, it’s one week for promoting the way we want to work, by inviting the rest of the world to join us and work the jelly way for a week - at least.

HOW I WILL TRAVEL TO THE SUMMERCAMP
By car, from Toulouse, through Carcassonne probably, anybody willing to jump in from Toulouse or Carcassonne is welcome !

I’m expecting many things from the summercamp: come there and meet people with many different experiences and point of views about coworking, share ideas, knowledge, learn, plan some local and global events for the next Jellyweek. WHO I AM
As a collaboration and diversity enthusiast I created the idea of Jellyweek in 2010. I’ve organized the first Jellyweek in 2011 on a european level, and the second Jellyweek in 2012 together with Willi Schroll on a global level. I’m a wholehearted freelancing community builder, project manager & consultant.

MY JELLYWEEK VISION
I love to cocreate the next Jellyweek with a bigger, international team, to involve more countries and networks into the next Jellyweek and to create together transformational power. Why not having a Jellyweek ambassador and at least one jelly in each country of the world? Why not involving more coworking spaces all over the world to take part? Why not asking hackerspaces worldwide to join the week? Why not including also scientists, startup incubators, artists, changemakers, NGOS and others with their actions and thoughts to learn more about global collaboration? The sense of Jellyweek is for me also to discover once again more than before the richness of our beautiful world, its people, its topics and its challenges. Jellyweek is about dealing in a experimental, productive way with all of it.

HOW I WILL TRAVEL TO THE SUMMERCAMP
I plan to take the train to Paris and then from Paris to Carcassonne.

I love to meet the great people of the crew (most of them I know from online collaboration during and after the last Jellyweek) for the first time personally. From 2nd to 9th of september the international Jellyweek Crew will gather for the first time at the JELLYWEEK SUMMER WORKCAMP in the south of France. It will be a very important moment for the Jellyweek movement, when people who mostly experienced together the first Worldwide Jellyweek in January 2012, but who didn’t meet each other personnally before, will come together with their experiences, skills, energies for the first time to cocreate the next Jellyweek in January 2013. WHO I AM
I am a strong minded girl, a wife and a mother, I live in the country side and I’m passionate about coworking. I’ve created an association: “Uploader” to promote coworking through organizing events: Jelly, FrozenJelly and now the Jellyweek Summer Workcamp. I believe that rural areas can benefit from the coworking movement and wish to help develop it.

MY JELLYWEEK VISION
Jellyweek is the one event that makes a difference, people from all over the world get together online and face-to-face. This event gives the chance to everyone to connect, meet, create partnership, get involve in new projects and be part of a worldwide movement.

HOW I WILL TRAVEL TO THE SUMMERCAMP
Unfair really, as i only have to drive 30 minutes to get there!

MY SUMMERCAMP VISION
I feel that in order to create a strong core team, it is important that we meet face-to-face, share our points of view, feelings, and experiences. We can then define what we need to improve the next Jellyweek, get organized and start creating. This will be a unique event and I am feeling proud and happy to be part of it.

Bert-Ola Bergstrand / Sweden / Jellyweek 2012 Ambassador

WHO I AM
Over the last years I have initiated and been part in developing a global network of Institutional entrepreneurs called Social Capital Forum. Aim of the network is to facilitate social capital development among actors in society, connecting local with global, urban with rural and virtual with face to face meetings. Moreover, I have been involved in developing the “Impact Investing” field in Scandinavia, hosted a number of events on the topic in the Nordic countries together with SoCap and other actors. I have also been part in outlining a new type of innovation system, the Biosphere Innovation system which basically connects social entrepreneurs into the context of Biosphere reserves. Finally, I am at the advisory board of some great social enterprises and facilitaing some awsome social media groups.

MY JELLYWEEK VISION
Jellyweek 2012 was a powerful movement which grew quickly and spread widely around the world in a few weeks time. I have a few ideas what could be the reasons for that and in 2013 I hope there will be an even more dynamic event with more participation around the world. If there could be 400 coworking places with 10 000 changemakers involved it would be awsome, but fully realistic. I also hope that I can understand the dynamics better around Jelly Week, its possibilities and challenges by using the social capital theory.

HOW I WILL TRAVEL TO THE SUMMERCAMP
I guess I will fly to Paris and then take a train.

MY SUMMERCAMP VISION
In the Summercamp I hope to learn more about the coworking movement around the world, not the least experiences from Brazil, which seems to be a very interesting country related to social capital development. Also the quilt project which was a very fascinating project would be great to hear more about. The quilt project has the potential of giving anl understanding in how to develop more sustainable development around relationships. Also I hope to enjoy the wine and culture of France, and baguette!! I remember when I was climbing in south France some 20 years back. My first trip on my own to another country in europe, outside the Nordic countries. A great experience! I am sure this trip will bring at least the same positive memories for the future.

Leila País de Miranda / Brazil / Jellyweek Quilt Creator

WHO I AM
I was born in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro in 1958 and became a mother in 1989. I graduated in Engineering and Systems Analysis and have always had special interest in helping children to be happy, creative and nice for themselves and others. In 1996, with two friends - Nilton Lessa and Luis Eugênio Pacheco - I opened “Moleque de ideias” - a space of co creation, where we have a team of software engineers and that can be also used by children from 4 years of age onwards to develop their own ideas and learn what they really want to learn. In Moleque de ideas we explore new technologies, including e-textiles. In January 2012, when I heard about Jellyweek, I decided to propose the co creation of a quilt, a piece of e-textiles, as a symbol of the coworking movement. It’s working!

MY JELLYWEEK VISION
Like the 2012 edition, Jellyweek 2013 will be a source of inspiration and motivation for us to meet with old and new friends and have again the pleasure of living and creating something meaningful together in the same space - physical and virtual.

HOW I WILL TRAVEL TO THE SUMMERCAMP
On August 31 I’ll fly to Paris and then to Toulouse where I’ll spend the day getting to know the historical center. The next day, I will go by train to Carcassonne, where I will meet with everyone to follow to Frontiers-Cabardès. I intend to spend the week following the Summercamp in Barcelona.

MY SUMMERCAMP VISION
I see the SummerCamp as a special moment of celebration of the idea of co creation. I believe in the transformative power of small groups acting together as creators rather than consumers. The Jellyweek Quilt 2012 is an example of co creation and it’ll be there in Summercamp, reminding us how we make beautiful, intelligent and meaningful things together - and just because we want to.

JELLYWEEK SUMMER WORKCAMP is coming to the South of France and wants you to join the powerful international core team for the cocreation of Jellyweek 2013.

JELLYWEEK SUMMER WORKCAMP is about innovation, cocreating processes and structures for global collaboration and of course the meeting of extraordinary people: It will be a week to build up a committed international team with a strong shared mission. In our team of activists we need all skills for imagination & implementation for concrete & visionary project management of #JW13.

Unofficially known as Berlin’s tech coworking space, co.up will be hosting a hackday on January 21st: Coworking Hack Day #2. After the success of the first CoHackDay in August of last year, Jellyweek seemed to be the perfect time to organize another event of the same nature. Hackdays exemplify the spirit of jellies - cooperation, teaching and being taught, and lending a hand or some brain power to bring someone else’s idea to fruition.

To date, lots of projects and ideas have been put forward. Some of the projects are centred around better utilizing the space and making it a nicer or more beautiful work place. A revamp - changing the layout of the desks to facilitate a more productive yet still informal environment - has been suggested, or the idea of installing a microcontroller with an acceleration sensor and radio transmitter to monitor the skylight windows (so that no-one else’s laptop gets soaked, like that one time..) Other space improvement ideas are the “Getting Things Done Corner,” or setting up a collection of everyday items often necessary to work that could be used and provided on an honor system (much like “take a penny, leave a penny” jars) by coworkers; for example chargers, USB or iPod cables, envelopes, pencils, etc. The “Coworking Disco” is another unique project idea merging beautification and information: LED lights, controlled remotely through DMX, could be used to signify lunchtime, the time of day (as an artificial sunset), or as a continuous integration notifier, while warming up the space and creating a nice ambiance.

Other projects have to do with our coworkers’ eternal love of caffeinated drinks and sweets. Mate, a highly revered tea/soft drink with the kick of a mule, is something one of our participants has been brewing for several events now, with great success. This time around he’ll be looking for the perfect winter mixture of this geek favorite, as well as Glühwein (otherwise known as mulled wine). A different project group will be leading a cupcake icing workshop, as well as trying to create the perfect website/interface for customer-dictated cupcake customization.

The rest of the ideas are personal projects, which will lay ground for collaboration and hopefully spark interest in those who may have been curious about something without having had the chance to try it out. Projects of this nature include programming a Sudoku application that can write and solve puzzles, and offers the opportunity for two players to go head to head in a timed match. The MacRuby UTF8 symbol application project is open to pair programming and for those who would like to learn a thing or two. The application will let users copy symbols to their clipboard, and will be submitted to the App store at the end of the day. Another project group is the “TV-B-Gone,” a infrared remote that turns off most televisions by broadcasting more than 100 different turn-off codes; we’ll be putting together two kits that use Arduino and some code.

Just like last time, there’ll be an abundance of good company and couches and video games will be available for anyone in need of a break. After a pizza dinner, we’ll have project demonstrations and end the evening with a few beers and Tetris matches. The event is free and open to absolutely everyone who would like to get involved. It’s never too late to submit a project!

Livestreams & google hangouts : intense connection

If you want to broadcast your jelly via livestream, we encourage you to register at livestream.com as we have done: http://www.livestream.com/jellyweek. Here Willi is explaining, how simple it is. When you have your channel, it will be super easy to have a realtime overview of the channels broadcasting simultaneously in each moment ! This is done with the query “jellyweek”. Necessary requirement : Your channel title definitely has to contain “jellyweek”.

Google hangouts are a great way to connect instantly with others – around a project or to have an exchange with a jelly partner. On google+ you find also a #JELLYWEEK account: In its circles all #JELLYWEEK participants on google+ are listed and invited to join a permanent hangout during the event. Jellypads & Projectpads : platforms for ongoing activities

The Jellypads and Projectpads are supporting the ongoing activities and are accessible via the jelly overview and project overview. Every jelly and every project has an own pad. So your collaborators have one space to connect and coordinate – and to track what is going on there. It’s amazing how the Jellyweek offers new opportunities to work together all over the world. These last three weeks of organizing JELLYWEEK 2012 have shown incredible dynamics behind the scenes too. The challenge in one sentence: Building up a social information architecture to enable all the participating jellies around the world to connect, coordinate, discuss, collaborate and possibly let new partnerships and projetcs emerge. Now we introduce step by step, what we build up for you.

Wow, what a wave! We are counting now 170 participating jellies worldwide! The figure far more than doubled in less than three weeks. The table JELLY OVERVIEW shows all the jellies and is sorted after continents and time zones for your convenience. With using fulltext search on the page you will have nearly the convenience of a database. And if you know the ID of a specific jelly, e.g. search for “#J123” and you are in the correct cell/line at once. To join the swarm in the last minute please use the JELLY QUESTIONNAIRE.

JELLYHACK : 36 hours global marathon of design & development to enhance coworking

You like coworking and something troubles you ? You want your workspace to be more fun, creative and crazy ? Submit your issues and ideas on Twitter, using #jellyissue.

You are creative ? You have talent (or not) ? Jellyhack is a 36 hours marathon during which hackers and designers will give birth to anything that comes to their minds to adress these problems.

Let’s create a huge win-win-project in between hackerspaces and coworking movement during the upcoming #JELLYWEEK.

It’s an interesting question. You can own a coworking space and not offer Jelly, or participate in Jelly but never join a coworking space. Sounds confusing ? It isn’t, but some people are still unfamiliar with the Jelly ethos and are hesitant to get involved in coworking.

So what’s it all about ?

First of all and possibly most importantly, Jelly should be accessible to anyone - and that means free ! Yes free !

There should be no money changing hands to attend a Jelly event and no obligation to become a member of anything. To participate in Jelly you only need an open mind about meeting new people and working somewhere different once in a while.

It’s a sense of community – perhaps this won’t happen immediately but relationships may quickly grow. The more people you meet through Jelly, the more opportunities there are to build an informal business network both on and off-line. This can extend to business networking, social events and project partnerships – all features of a ‘traditional workplace’ that are often missed by people that work at home. Jelly can give you a much needed ‘watercooler moment’, whatever the weather!

Collaboration is key – Jelly organisers are usually very enthusiastic about the concept and supportive of each other. Jelly people like to share ideas and pass Jelly forward. Anyone can get involved – working with private venue managers, coworking spaces or community organisations – almost anywhere with free wireless internet is a potential Jelly zone. Savvy venue owners enjoy hosting Jelly, it can bring them additional activity when the building is normally quiet, or a chance to make themselves known to an entirely new network of people.

In 2006, Jelly started out as a casual arrangement between friends. JellyWeek encourages global support for the same core principles; accessibility, community and collaboration whether that is in your street, your country, your continent or across the world. You only need 2 people to start a Jelly – so why not get involved?!

Time for a little update! Currently we are working on some lightweight solutions to support all the jellies around the globe. Since the jellies are scattered on a planet, which is not a cube, but a globe we think a lot about conflicting timezones etc, and how to organize without too much organizing. Thanks to Willi Schroll (actually a trend researcher and strategist from Berlin) for joining the effort to create a kind of facilitation platform in low tech constraints. Really exciting to watch the countdown to the worldwide #JELLYWEEK.

Meantime #JELLYWEEK participants and observers could discuss in the new facebook forum for the event (https://www.facebook.com/groups/jellyweek12/) open questions concerning the preparation of their own jellies in January and how we can communicate and collaborate on a global level. Discovering the sense of global coworking

Everybody, who’s observing the fast growing coworking movement, is amazed about its global broadening. Coworking seems to answer to some unfulfilled needs of people from everywhere. The economical, political and social shift of structures in a globalized world makes people from everywhere think about how to organize themselves and their surroundings in a new way. Coworking is connecting the value of cooperation with new types of mostly self-organized and customer-oriented workspaces. Seen as symbols of the global shift coworking spaces are the nucleus of futuristic styles to do business, act together for common reasons and build up new communities and solidarities. And this is done both locally grounded and globally connected …

Let’s discover the sense of global coworking in the upcoming WORLDWIDE #JELLYWEEK 2012. Which important needs can be fulfilled by coworking? For which local and global problems coworking can be a part of the solution? How can coworkers use the global coworking infrastructure to foster their businesses and projects? Which people and networks aren’t yet connected to the idea of coworking and should be involved? How can business-oriented networks and NGOs use the coworking infrastructure for their global community building and actions? How can we communicate during the #JELLYWEEK from jelly space to jelly space, from continent to continent with each other? Can we send voyagers from one place or continent to another place or continent in january? What kind of technical, organizational, social and cultural prototypes can we develop during the #JELLYWEEK for the enrichment of a global coworking culture?

The structure of the WORLDWIDE #JELLYWEEK 2012 will make the global community visible.

Monday —- 16/01/12 —- is the day of #NorthAmerica.
Tuesday —- 17/01/12 —- is the day of #SouthAmerica.
Wednesday —- 18/01/12 —- is the day of #Africa.
Thursday —- 19/01/12 —- is the day of #Europe.
Friday —- 20/01/12 —- is the day of #Asia.
Saturday —- 21/01/12 —- is the day of #Australia.
Sunday —- 22/01/12 —- is the day of #OneWorld.

Each of these days will be focused on one special part of the world. During the day it’s for example possible:

—- to discuss about special topics concerning the continent of the day,
—- to create a program, that shows a part of the special culture(s),
—- to ask about the special mentality and tradition of cooperation and
—- to get in contact with the coworkers of the concerning continent.

During this day it’s also possible:
—- that the coworkers of the concerning continent are presenting themselves to the rest of the world and
—- to create whatever you want.

Let’s collaborate and explore the deeper sense of global coworking!
